A fast-food meal contains 1,750 milligrams of sodium, well above the daily recommended amount of sodium for adults. However, some people can eat fast food every day and not gain weight  without having a serious health problem. Scientists may have discovered why this is happening to some people.

In particular, a new study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that adding too much salt to a high-fat meal prevents weight gain in mice – just the opposite of what we would expect. Mice following a high-fat, low-salt diet, on the other hand, gained more weight.

Sodium naturally does not affect each of us in the same way. That’s why many people consume these “forbidden” foods and end gain weight . Whatever the situation, however, a high salt diet should not be promoted. Beyond body weight, the risks to our health are visible.

Salt is everywhere

Of course we need sodium for our body and its proper functioning on a daily basis. But the truth is, we get sodium daily from our diet. Aside from the usual salty suspects we all know, there is sodium in foods that are not usually associated with it. For example, there is plenty of salt in tomato juice and cottage cheese. So you understand the importance of salt control, so that we reduce our consumption to the permissible limits.

There is a lot of salt in many fast foods. So, if you are planning to enjoy the joy of fast food or any other salt-rich meal, you need to consider whether it is worth risking your health. If such a meal is planned, then eating low sodium foods for the rest of the day is a must. You can for example prepare a salad without adding salt or try a soup, a sandwich with vegetables or even whole meal pasta without salt.

Alternatives

If you think salt is needed to taste a meal, we recommend experimenting with different herbs and spices. Instead of using ready-made cubes filled with preservatives and sodium, you can add basil, mint and parsley, pepper and paprika, cardamom and many other gifts to nature. Also, the garlic is extremely healthy and gives a full, spicy taste that is just as satisfying as the salt.

Recipes that require salt are just as tasty if you decide to use only half the amount of salt. Even if for the first time your taste is puzzled, you will realize that the lack of excess salt highlights the distinct taste of each dish. The materials are more clearly distinguished and the combination of materials looks more successful.

If you are one of the people who add salt without even tasting it, review it. You will find it surprising that the food was already sufficiently salted, before filling it with extra salt. No matter how salty your tastes are, it is worth trying to reduce salt intake in clever ways for your health!
